New Hobbies and the Like

Traever, for your information, Raging Bull is a pretty good movie but I like Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter better. Anyway, you don't know my taste in movies and you're a liar and a thief and sometimes you don't get your hair cut properly.

We don't get free internet anymore. Arlan moved away. We are going to have to start paying for it. What a bummer. Anyhow, things are slow because I can't watch the Adult Swim Friday Night Fix and I can't play games and I can't watch movie trailers or write nonsense to myself and then change the color of the words. I think I'm going to take up a strange hobby. I haven't decided what it will be yet. Not building model cars and airplanes though.

Here's the real question: Who is cooler, Clint Eastwood or Steve McQueen? I can't decide. Also, if they went to high school together would they have been friends? I'm not sure about that. Steve McQueen would probably have been captain of the football team and Clint Eastwood might have been the guy in shop class who smoked cigarettes and skipped school and who was really cool . . . I should just drop this.

I'm hungry. I think that my brain is starting to eat itself I am so hungry and that is why I am not able to think properly. I have been eating beef jerky a lot. I'm not ashamed of it either. I always apologize for eating it because I can see the disgust in people's eyes but not anymore! I like beef jerky and that's that.

And for my new hobby I think I am going to start reading books in French.

for this one time in my life, i think that i may be in total agreement with you traever.

and jonAthan, if you wanted us to pay for internet then all you had to do was say, "you guys need to pay for it." that would have been more appropriate instead of complaining about it pointlessly a couple months after the fact.

the firs thing i saw when i opened your blog was the steve mcqueen/clint eastwood question. all i have to say is that steve mcqueen is pretty much the truest definition of cool that there is...in fact, without a second thought, i've always said that he is the coolest human God ever created. so, now that i've overstated my point, i'll just say that, although i agree that clint eastwood is cool...there is a vast ocean that seperates him in my mind from steve. okay, now i've freaked myself and everyone else that has read my comment, but i just felt the need to express that thought!:) i've read on here in the past that you think he's awesome...which is just another reason why i want to be like when i grow up.:)

dave, you seem like you would know something like this. i bought a documentary dvd from sounth africa and it won't play on american dvd players. it will play on a computer. is there a way to burn a copy and re-format it so it will play on my dvd player?

would neal or scott know how to burn me a zone free copy? turns out that dvd and players have zones and i have a zone 1 (america) player with a zone 2 (some other crappy country) dvd. they can do anything with a computer.

traever, i feel honored that you think i can do anything with a computer. apparently, you have a PAL dvd, a NTSC player and a NTSC tv. basically they are different formats of transmitting the video feed (dvd-to-player, player-to-tv). to watch your dvd, you would need a player that converted PAL to NTSC or buy a PAL player and PAL tv. there is a software way to convert the dvd on your computer. check out this link: How to convert a PAL DVD to a NTSC DVD but be warned that it takes an obscene amount of time to do it (about 1/2 a day). hope that helps.

turns out i don't own a computer. i wonder if they'll care if i do it at work.

probably not. just tell them you're using a certain computer for a "special project" and then buy them all candy bars when it's over and you have nothing to show them. i'm fairly certain that will work.
